Welcoming our Step Up To Net Zero Coordinator

April 9, 2024

Meet Danny, and find out how he's meeting the challenges faced by our changing world

I will be spending six months at Scottish Ensemble as part of the Step-Up To Net Zero scheme, which is allowing me to receive training and certification in sustainability and net-zero while also handling an action plan to reduce emissions and improve sustainability at my host organisation, Scottish Ensemble.

I am a linguist by trade, so I am fascinated by the creative ways human beings communicate and find solutions to problems. There is no problem greater than climate change, but also paradoxically none which is more difficult to communicate to people.

I think music and art in general can have a powerful voice. It can be an important vector for raising consciousness and enacting change. Scottish Ensemble have already done some great work on sustainability, and I’m looking forward to learning from the team and making a positive contribution to the organisation’s activities.
Sustainability is something that’s always on my mind, and although the climate situation can sometimes feel hopeless, it feels good to have this opportunity to make an impact locally and gain an understanding of the methods which will become the norm as we work towards a zero-carbon future.
