Stories from Scottish Creations: Shetland

"There's something about people feeling connected to the areas they’re from that these tunes can bring very strongly, both to the players and the audience members"

Alastair Savage

3 November 2022

In this fourth episode of our series of documentaries from the Scottish Creations we travel to Shetland and focus on the folk sessions in the tour.

It’s the first time that violinist Alastair Savage, who curated the traditional music in the programme, has visited Shetland and he talks about the significance of that for him and about the music he has programmed.

This series of documentaries is taken from our May 2022 tour, Scottish Creations. Scottish Creations was a celebration of the nations stories – personal, local, folklore and more. Storytelling was not only conveyed through music, both classical and traditional, but also through the visual arts – with the concert touring with an accompanying exhibition, with work from amateur artists and crafters from across Scotland, again all connected with stories.
