Scottish Ensemble x Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

February 8, 2022

Our annual collaboration returns.

As part of our commitment to training the next generation of Young Artists, every year we spend an intensive week working with string students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) in a ‘side by side’ project.

Last year the project necessarily happened behind closed doors, but we’re thrilled that this year we can throw those doors open and let you see what we’ve been up to.

This year’s project is a little different. As part of the celebrations surrounding the RCS’s 175th anniversary, the rehearsal and development period for the collaboration has been lengthened to two weeks, and in order to give the students a distinctively ‘Scottish Ensemble’ experience, we’re adding some direction and movement to proceedings (as evidenced by the above photo, taken during rehearsals), developed by the RCS’s Ali de Souza, state of the art lighting by Ben Stimpson (who we recently worked with on our Common Sound tour), and even some memorisation.

You can watch the results of the collaboration this Thursday, 10th February. The hour long performance at 7.30pm includes Holst’s folk-infused St.Paul’s Suite, Caroline Shaw’s zesty Punctum and the Bach which inspired it, and culminates in Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

Tickets are available now from the RCS, starting at £5.
