Dumfries Residency

After opening the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival 2018 with our concert celebrating Mozart’s phenomenal range (Fri 25 May 2018), we’ll be staying around for a whole range of events at the heart of this buzzing arts festival.

On Saturday 26 May, we’ll be performing alongside an ensemble of eight singers as part of Blackbird Opera’s Sir Walter Scott in Music and Opera. Sir Walter Scott’s poetry and novels had a profound influence on music throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Featuring a cast of rising stars from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, as well as local soprano Claudia Wood and pianist Conal Bembridge-Sayers, this rich and varied evening will take you through some of the most intriguing and entertaining music to be inspired by the great writer’s works, including dramatic and romantic sounds by Bizet, Rossini and Berlioz.

The on Sunday 27 May, we’ll be joining the celebrated musicians of Gavin Marwick’s Journeyman Project for Impressions of Galloway, an evening fusing traditional and classical music and featuring new compositions by celebrated fiddle player Gavin Marwick. Inspired by the Galloway landscape and culture, these new works have been specially written for this powerful premiere performance at the Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival.
