Vacancy Producer

Part-time (0.6) permanent position

Dancers and musicians together on stage

About us

Across 2019-20 Scottish Ensemble (SE) is celebrating 50 years of music-making, and marking a spirit of entrepreneurialism, outside-the-box approaches to classical music, and a deep commitment to creating exhilarating musical experiences, on stage and off, for diverse audiences across Scotland and beyond.

The role

We are looking for a focused and passionate Producer to support the planning and delivery of our collaborative projects. This work sees SE experimenting and leading the way in innovative means of presenting classical music and widening its appeal, whether through collaborations with other musical genres; creative artists from other artforms, including theatre-makers, visual artists, and choreographers; or leaders from outside the arts – from scientists to chefs. Around 3-4 such projects are devised and toured in Scotland each year, and past productions are also toured in the UK and internationally.

Based at SE’s busy office in Glasgow, our part-time Producer holds a key role in realising these ground-breaking projects. You will work closely with SE’s senior management team and Artistic Director to ensure our collaborative artistic projects are brought to life through robust planning across logistics and production, a clear and positive communication style, and the flexibility to respond to new ideas.

We seek a candidate who enjoys getting into the deep detailed thinking required when planning something new and complex. We will expect the successful candidate to have a track record of meticulous planning, and a detailed, rigorous approach to their work. Scottish Ensemble’s projects require a sensitive balance of rigor and flexibility! Experience and understanding of musicians’ needs is a key additional skill we would find beneficial as we support our players to deliver ambitious projects.

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience of working in an arts environment, preferably with experience of touring performing arts projects, as well as a demonstrable passion for classical music. Proven strong project management skills are essential, as is a full UK driving license; some on-the-road touring responsibilities are shared between SE’s small team.
