featuring the Scottish Ensemble
Following the tremendous success of Alison Balsom’s Italian Concertos disc, which was EMI Classics best-selling record of 2010, the superstar trumpeter’s latest release was announced today. Seraph – Trumpet Concertos, which features four works by 20th and 21st-century composers, is Balsom’s sixth recording with EMI Classics.
The title work, Seraph, is dedicated to Alison by the composer, James MacMillan. Seraph was a joint commission by the Scottish Ensemble and Perth Concert Hall and received its premiere at London’s Wigmore Hall in February 2011.  The work has a dramatic mix of the playful and the poignant and allows Balsom to demonstrate the versatility of her instrument.  Having worked with Alison on the Italian Concertos recording and in performances throughout 2011, the Scottish Ensemble was delighted to be part of this exciting new work.
Seraph is now available to buy here.
