Scottish Ensemble at McManus Galleries DundeeAfter months of planning, meetings, rehearsing and site visits, the first-ever Scottish Ensemble residency starts this week in Dundee from 18 – 22 October, with a second residency in Inverness from 25 – 28 October.
During each residency the Scottish Ensemble will be getting out of the concert hall and out into the communities in Inverness and Dundee presenting a packed programme of concerts, dances, film screenings, coaching and teaching and family events. There are further residencies planned in Aberdeen and Perth in Spring 2013.
As well as a whole host of events designed to bring the Ensemble experience to as many people as possible, the centrepiece of each residency will be an evening concert in a regular Scottish Ensemble venue. In October, these concerts will feature a fresh new look at Benjamin Britten’s cantata Les Illuminations performed by tenor Thomas Walker with newly-commissioned visuals by Netia Jones.
The Ensemble has built each residency project in collaboration with Friends, local authority contacts, venue partners and others in each city to ensure that the events we’re presenting have the most impact.
Jenny Marra MSP, North East Scotland and Shadow Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs said:
“As Dundee moves closer to seeing the V&A take shape, and the City considers bidding to be UK City of Culture in 2017, it’s great recognition of all that’s going on in Dundee to have the first annual Scottish Ensemble residency here.
“I hope the musicians enjoy their time in our lovely city and get time to meet and work with others in our thriving arts community.”
You can find out the full residency programme for your local city on our residency pages, and read interviews with some of the artists involved in the residencies on the Scottish Ensemble blog.
If you’ve got an idea as to how the Ensemble could best bring classical music to your community in a future residency, we’d love to hear from you. Contact office@scottishensemble.co.uk or contact 0141 332 4747.
