Scottish Ensemble is delighted to present an exciting new season of events.
Spanning June 2016 to June 2017, this new season sees SE travel across Scotland – from Shetland to Dumfries – with an ever-growing number of concerts, creative learning and participation opportunities, and distinctive collaborations.
One highlight is the Scottish premiere of Anno, a new live experience created in collaboration with composer Anna Meredith and visual artist Eleanor Meredith which re-contextualises Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. This exciting commission follows the success of Goldberg Variations – ternary patterns for insomnia, SE’s 2015/16 collaboration with Swedish dance company Andersson Dance in which musicians and dancers were choreographed on stage together. Following 17 performances last season, the production will now tour to Europe, including dates at prestigious global festivals including the Bach Academy Bruges and tanzmesse international nwr, the world’s largest gathering dedicated to contemporary dance practitioners.
SE will also work with four renowned soloists this season: Alina Ibragimova (violin), David Cohen (cello), Johannes Fischer (percussion) and Bartosz Woroch (violin). For the annual Concerts by Candlelight series, we will also be joined by nine promising young players from NYOS.
The SE Residency programme, which delivers community and participatory events across Scotland, continues to flourish through the creation of partnerships with new organisations including Maggie’s and Quarries who we will work with to co-create full days of activity.
