Regular Scottish Ensemble collaborator, composer and fiddle player Donald Grant grew up immersed in traditional music in a small village in the Highlands, and it was here that he realised his passion for gathering with others to share a love of music-making.
In April 2025 Donald Grant and his band joined together with Scottish Ensemble to perform contemporary and traditional Scottish tunes in an evening of friendship and musical storytelling. Touring to venues across Scotland, the programme included Donald’s work Thuit an Oidhche Oirnn (The Night Overtook Us).
Stunning performances... consummate musicianship... I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and came away buzzing.
Our recent collaboration with Donald Grant was extremely exciting. His arrangements are so inventive and he and his band have so much energy that you can't help get swept along and be inspired.
I loved the story-telling aspect of the music - it was moving, transported me and took my mind and imagination to a lovely place.
