Dance Music

Combining the pleasures of listening to music with the satisfaction of moving our bodies is one of humanity’s oldest rituals – and one which has quite happily resulted in some of the most rhythmic and compelling music across the globe, and throughout history.

Dance Music is a joyful sashay through a host of pieces written with our feet in mind; an assortment of deliciously rhythmic music from across centuries, continents and traditions.

Piazzolla’s undeniably infectious take on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons pulsates with the colour of Latin America. In this special arrangement, award-winning violinist Malin Broman (Swedish Musica Vitae / Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra) is joined by one of Europe’s leading double bassists, Rick Stotijn, for a performance of fiery solos and crackling rhythmic brio.

Our accompanying selection of waltzes, tangos and more includes the breathless tarantella of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden and lively dances from Purcell’s Fairy Queen suite as well as Britten and Schulhoff’s contemporary spin on these historic styles…
