Naomi Pavri

What got you interested in music?
When I was two I saw Jacqueline du Pré playing on the telly and I said “I want to make that sound”.

What was the first album you bought?
Duran Duran – I was obsessed with Simon Le Bon!

Where is your favourite place in Scotland?
North Berwick. I’m a lover of the sea and there’s such a wholesome vibe in North Berwick. My son used to compete in a tennis tournament there every year and we’d all hang out at the beach in the evening. It’s such a beautiful place.

If you could see Scottish Ensemble collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?
Cynthia Erivo! I’m in awe of her voice and the extraordinary range and colours she creates. That would be a dream collaboration.

Biography

Naomi began playing the cello at the age of 4 1/2 on a very tiny cello. Music was always her first love and she studied at Wells Cathedral School, the Royal Academy of Music and Yale School of Music where she graduated with the Master of Music degree. She has performed with all the London orchestras as well as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and is often invited as Principal cello with Scottish Opera.

Naomi is a cello tutor with the Benedetti Foundation educating both adults and children and delivering online workshops. She regularly performs with her husband the pianist, Fali Pavri, giving recitals across the country.

Naomi has been a member of Scottish Ensemble for too many years to count and is thankful for each and every day with the group!

She’s the owner of 2 cats, a cockapoo and a fast tortoise, as well as being an avid fair weather open water swimmer and general lover of all things sporty. Proudest achievements outside music are completing four marathons and swimming 5km in the Aegean Sea where she was dropped in the middle of the sea and told to swim to the mountain in the distance!
