As we all settle into an autumn unlike any other, we are delighted to be back making music. Like all performers, we have deeply missed you, our audiences, and hope to reconnect with many of you in the weeks ahead.

While live indoor performances are still out of reach, you can join us online for a mix of concerts and cutting-edge digital experiences, as we start to change the filmic language of classical music on your screen.

What’s in store…

Our intimate Musical Book Club continues with guest hosts such as Craig Armstrong, Tom Service and Dobrinka Tabakova. Hosted on Zoom, each edition has a different theme and range of music to explore – but no previous musical knowledge is required!

Kick off the SE concert season online with Songs for Life with Karen Cargill. An uplifting concert set to explore universal moments in life – from lullabies to laments, love songs to fireside folk tunes.

Next up, you can enjoy a high-energy short film showcasing our players and senior members of the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland. Featuring Philip Glass’ Symphony No. 3, a dream-like train ride takes us on a journey through the music.

Hot on the heels of our first Solo Collaboration with Scottish Dance Theatre, we’ll soon step into the world of visual art and bring together artist Jyll Bradley, composer Anna Clyne and Jane Atkins, SE’s principal viola for a new digital project exploring our relationship with the ever-changing natural world.

Finally for 2020, our annual Concerts by Candlelight remain a highlight. This year, we’ll be celebrating with a special online version – more programme information will be available soon for this well-loved magical evening.

We’re not forgetting our younger audience, as we are offering free online lunchtime concerts to all schoolchildren in Scotland, with a selection of music to both calm and uplift. Make sure you tell anyone from P1-S6 that their school just needs to contact us to sign up.
