February Concerts Announced

January 28, 2022

Tchaikovsky by Heart in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.

Putting a typically unexpected Scottish Ensemble twist on a well-loved cornerstone of our repertoire, Tchaikovsky By Heart marks our return to the stage for 2022.

The centrepiece of these concerts is a performance of Tchaikovsky’s life-affirming Serenade for Strings, performed from memory.

Why do this? Well, following on from our investigations into what makes live performance so special earlier in the season with Common Sound, we’re keen to see what difference this memorisation might make to the performance and communication between musicians and audience.

Might it, perhaps, allow performers to communicate differently with each other? Might it change the relationship between performer and audience, with musicians less rooted in their physical music? And could it allow even those who know this piece extremely well to hear it in a new way?

Alongside our in-person performances we’ll also be streaming the audio of our performance on 17 February live and free, so that it can be enjoyed wherever you are. Full details of that stream will be released closer to the time.

And, if you’re not based in one of our three tour cities and are keen to see us live and in person then don’t worry, we’re currently finalising plans for performances in Aberdeen, Dundee, Mull, Perth, Shetland and Skye for the Spring and Summer, and details of these will be announced soon.

All performances last approximately 75 minutes with no interval.

All tickets £16 with concessions available.

We look forward to you joining us for these performances – whether in person or online!
