Scottish Ensemble comes to Dundee for four days of events as part of the Dundee Residency 2017.
SE Residencies are all about bringing the joy of making and listening to music to as many people as possible by taking it out of the concert hall and into the community. Across a short stay in each place, we put on events from popup performances in supermarkets and workshops with amateur musicians to community feasts, art classes and much more.

In partnership with McManus Galleries
We’re delighted to be able to join Dundee’s impressive art gallery and museum, McManus Galleries, in celebrating their 150th anniversary with a whole day of events for school children and the public.
In the morning, we’ll treat groups of primary school aged children to their own private tour of the museum’s galleries – complete with a matching musical soundtrack, designed to bring to life the various exhibits in a way which will encourage the children’s memory of, and engagement with, the museum. This activity has been designed in response to McManus Galleries’ own 150th anniversary activities, which have encouraged people from across Dundee to reflect on and respond to what museums can be, what they do for the community, and what the future could look like.
McManus Galleries Pop-up Performances
12 noon – 5pm
Then in the afternoon, everyone is invited to join as musicians scatter themselves across all floors of the museum providing pop-up performances in many of the spaces. From solo to trio and quartet, groups of musicians will perform music matched to certain art works or exhibitions to provide a thought-provoking musical soundtrack as people browse the exhibits.

In partnership with Dundee Comics Creative Space
From providing a live musical soundtrack to budding young comic artists reading out their work, to posing for illustrators to sketch as we play, our day in partnership with the Dundee Comics Creative Space will be packed full of sessions for those already involved in the comic world, and those who want to come and watch some live creative interaction. We’ll have more details to follow soon – watch this space.

Closing concert: Silver Screen Sounds
Our four-day stay ends with a closing concert inspired by film soundtracks and scores, and celebrating the power of music. Pieces you might recognise from films, such as Barber’s Adagio for Strings and Janáček’s String Quartet No.2, nestle amongst soundtracks by Ennio Morricone, Craig Armstrong (The Great Gatsby), Bernard Hermann (Psycho) and more.
