Ensemble Resonanz and Derya Yıldırım present:

Derya’s Songbook

//trans-traditional pan-European journeys into music//
//multi-instrumental virtuoso vibes//
//folk + traditional + classical + back then + happening now//

A stage full of the sounds of elsewhere: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Greece. Tunes passed on by centuries of mouths and ears — tunes that have been twisted, warped, fondly echoed and deftly weaved to shape nine utterly new, modern pieces that sing out to a new culture gathering together in today’s cities. A song cycle, the first outcome of Hamburg’s new trans-traditional think tank Körber Resonanz Lab.

A new collection, written for sensational vocalist and bağlama player Derya Yıldırım and performed by a crew of virtuosic musicians across bağlama, strings, duduk, hand drums and drum kit. Live music, steeped in history, remixed with immediacy, vibrancy and virtuosity in the hands of some of Europe’s finest composers and musicians. Including three new songs and world premieres by Ali N. Askin, Yannis Kyriakides and Max Andrzejewski.
