We return to live, in-person performances across Scotland

As we return to the stage across Scotland, we do it by asking some questions.

What is so special about gathering for live performance? What is powerful about the collective experience; listening to music together? And what effect does an audience have on the actual performance?

To help us explore these and other questions we will be joined by BBC 6 Music DJ and Psychotherapist, Nemone. Fresh from her recent radio series, Journeys in Sound, which looked at the link between music and the mind, Nemone will be our guide for this hour-long event, and has collaborated with our Artistic Director Jonathan Morton to shape the musical programme.

That programme will include music by the likes of JS Bach, Steve Reich, Jonny Greenwood, Couperin, Caroline Shaw and others, with live performances from Scottish Ensemble and DJ contributions from Nemone.

Ahead of the performances and at them, we’ll be asking you, our audience, many of whom we haven’t seen for SO long, some questions too, asking you about your thoughts, feelings and expectations of the event. Look out for ways in which you can get involved closer to the time.

Returning to Live Performance: Keeping you Safe and Comfortable

At Scottish Ensemble we believe in putting our audiences at the heart of what we do, and that’s why for these performances we’re giving you a choice of performance styles. For those who’d like a little more reassurance we are offering a 6pm socially distanced concert, at 50% of the venue capacity. For those who’d like to prioritise the atmosphere of a live concert, our 8pm concert will be non-distanced.*

Whichever performance you choose, your safety and comfort is our priority. For both performances we’ll be providing hand sanitiser and in line with Scottish government advice, we ask that you wear a face covering. In addition please be reassured that all Scottish Ensemble musicians and staff will be tested daily as well.

We hope that with these measures and with the choice of performance styles you can enjoy being back on Common Sound with us – we can’t wait to have you with us again.

*In Dundee we are only able to schedule one performance, which will be socially distanced.
