Catherine Marwood studied at the RCS and played with the Fairfield Quartet for nine years before joining Scottish Chamber Orchestra as principal viola.
She appeared many times as soloist with the orchestra and enjoyed a wide variety of chamber music working with such visiting artists as Yuri Bashmet, Joseph Swensen and Jamie Laredo.
She premiered and recorded Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ Strathclyde Concerto No. 5 and, as a member of the Marwood Ensemble, toured extensively and recorded under the Hyperion label.
She is a member of the Hebrides Ensemble and, in 2009, was appointed principal viola with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She is widely in demand as a guest principal around the country and teaches at St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh.
