Scottish Ensemble performs as part of the Perth Piano Sundays series at Perth Concert Hall.
On sale date to be announced
String Quintet No. 2 in G major
Piano Concerto No. 14 in E flat major
Concerto for Double String Orchestra
Our afternoon concert in Perth begins with five musicians performing Dvořák’s rich quintet in G major, scored with double bass for extra oomph.
We’re then joined by students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for one of Mozart’s earlier concertos, full of sparkling solo lines and a particularly poetic second movement. In an extension of our partnership with the prestigious conservatoire, the soloist in Mozart’s piano concerto will be the 2017 winner of its Jock Holden Memorial Mozart Piano Prize, which is awarded for the outstanding performance of a Mozart concerto.
Tippett’s bright and brilliant concerto will make for a dynamic ending to the afternoon, with two groups of strings alternately battling it out against each other or creating a powerful, united whole in movements which range from excitable drama to soaring, haunting, folk-inspired beauty.
