Scottish Ensemble Artistic Director curates a weekend of events at Glasgow venues
Scottish Ensemble - Jonathan MortonOur Artistic Director Jonathan Morton is in Glasgow this weekend, Friday 13 – Sunday 15 April, for a weekend of hand-picked events at The Old Fruitmarket, CCA, and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
Beginning on Friday at 9.30pm, the rest of the Ensemble will be joining Jonathan and contemporary music ensemble Icebreaker for an adventurous concert of music by Steve Reich, Louis Andriessen and Philip Glass.
On Saturday 14th, there will be lots of opportunities to find out more about what makes Jonathan tick musically, and gain an insight into his distinctive programming style. At 3.30pm, come along to the Ensemble’s home at the Centre for Contemporary Arts and enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at how our unique group prepares for its vibrant and inspiring performances with an open rehearsal for the Ensemble’s next £10:11/12 Season concert in Glasgow, SE Inversion at St Andrew’s in the Square on Saturday 21 April.
At 6.30pm, head along to the Recital Room at the City Halls to hear Jonathan’s choice of his desert island discs before an exhilarating performance from super-charged super group Taraf de Haïdoukswith the Hilliard Ensemble and Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto in the Old Fruitmarket at 8pm.
The weekend will be rounded off on Sunday 15th at 8.00pm in the atmospheric surroundings of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum with a performance of vocal group the Hilliard Ensemble’s Bach project MORIMUR which reveals a number of chorale melodies concealed within Bach’s solo violin Partita BWV 1004. The Hilliard Ensemble are joined by Pekka Kuusisto.
